This Syrah from the old vineyard on Cambridge Road has been handled in a fairly classical manner. Wild yeasts fermented with 25% whole bunches cuvaison of 24 days, basket pressed, aged in older wood, natural spring malo and then bottled with no filtering or fining and only a wafer of sulphites prebottling. The vintage was unusual with a high degree of sunshine hours leading to an early harvest with fresh acidity and modest alcohol.

A masculine with a smoky black fruited, spice character to the fore. It carries a generous palate weight supported by fresh acidity. It should marry beautifully with rich winter dishes in a classic English/French style yet carries the exotic spices well to the point it will feel at home amongst Asian delicacies such as Peking Duck. I would expect this wine to cellar very well, evolving slowly and beautifully for at least 12 years.
